Chinese tourists' footprints cover 1,700 cities worldwide during Spring Festival holiday: data

(ECNS) -- Data released by China's online travel platform Qunar on Saturday revealed that during the 2024 Spring Festival holiday, Chinese tourists visited 115 countries globally, covering 1,754 cities worldwide.

According to Qunar, Chinese tourists left their footprints in countries including Ethiopia and Madagascar in Africa, Uruguay in South America, and Lithuania, Monaco, Malta in Europe and more.

International hotel bookings on the platform increased by 4.7 times compared to the same period last year, and international flight bookings increased by as much as 14 times.

Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, which recently waived visas for Chinese tourists, saw significant growth in tourism bookings during the Spring Festival holiday.

On the Qunar platform, ticket bookings from China to Singapore during the holiday increased by 29 times compared to the same period last year, while Kuala Lumpur increased by 20 times, and Bangkok increased by 16 times.

Destinations with flights of over 10 hours, such as Melbourne in Australia, London in the UK, Istanbul in Turkey, Auckland in New Zealand, and Cairo in Egypt, became popular cities for Chinese tourists. Among them, ticket bookings to Dubai saw the highest increase, more than 10 times higher than the Spring Festival period in 2023.
