Northwestern Beijing's Yanqing district launched its celebration package for the Chinese New Year in Shixia village on Jan. 7. The celebrations for the Chinese New Year, which falls on Jan. 22 this year, feature a rich array of tourist-related activities, intangible cultural heritage (ICH) experiences and local cuisine.

At the launching ceremony, 18 new intangible cultural heritage items from Yanqing were announced by local culture and tourism bureau, which include stilt dance, sugar painting, Chen's Taiji boxing, hand knit handicraft and traditional leather carving.

Starting from Jan. 7 to 24, people could experience local intangible cultural heritage in Shixia village and nine other villages in Yanqing, where tourism homestays that combine hotel-standard modern comforts with rustic charms are provided. It is a welcome getaway from the urban hustle. Tourist can also have a bite of an ICH-themed banquet featuring local, time-honored cuisine.

Yanqing, the host of the 2019 World Horticultural Expo and one of the three venues of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, boasts historic attractions, ice and snow sports and green mountains and clear rivers.
